The Applied Linguistics, MA degree is designed to engage students in a wide range of topics and perspectives relevant to the field of linguistics. Students will explore areas relevant to professional translation, the IT industry, education and language policy, language teaching, and publishing, all of which build their professional skills alongside theoretical understanding. This course gives learners the chance to gain advanced knowledge of different approaches to contemporary linguistic issues and a greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying all human language. With the dissertation, students will carry out a sustained piece of independent research on a relevant topic of their choice. By choosing a TESOL-related research topic, they would be eligible to be awarded the MA Applied Linguistics (TESOL). Students will be taught from within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Their teaching comes from an experienced team of lecturers which include academics with experience in applied linguistics and linguistics. Each member of the teaching team holds a teaching qualification. This Applied Linguistics, MA course will be of interest to those who work or who wish to work in language-related professions, such as professional translating, the IT industry, education and language policy, language teaching, and publishing, or who wish to pursue further academic research at doctoral level.
